Man walking downtown assaulted by two men

A man was assaulted last evening while he walked with his girlfriend downtown. It was 11 p.m. when two men approached the couple at Granville near Nelson. They were followed by the men when they tried to walk away.

One of the men allegedly punched the victim numerous times, resulting in him falling to the ground. The second man began kicking him while he was down, before the two assailants fled.

The victim’s girlfriend called police and flagged down a patrol car in the area. Officers located the suspects a short distance away. They were arrested for assault and taken to jail.

The victim went to hospital for treatment and was released later the same night.
